SATURDAY’S WARRIOR & SEQUEL… ENGAGING!
CLEVERLY WOVEN TOGETHER INTO A WHOLE.

Carma Wadley (June 12, 2008)

The 35th Anniversary of the landmark production,"Saturday's Warrior," segues smoothly into the sequel. It includes all the memorable songs and storyline, condensed a bit, but providing the perfect setup for "The White Star."

Casey Elliot does an amazing job as both young and older Jimmy, bringing not only credibility to the passing years, but also capturing the essence of the soul-wrenching processes he is caught up in.

The songs for "Saturday's Warrior," still hold up both musically and emotionally. The songs in "The White Star” are stirring and memorable. If you remember "Saturday's Warrior," you will enjoy this powerful continuation of the story. But even if you haven't seen “Warrior” you will be easily caught up in this engaging, fast-paced sequel.

There is humor, but there are also tears. Ultimately, it is a story of love and redemption, of the importance of family, and the necessity of both faith and hope -- in life, in the atonement and in the Savior.

I knew I lucked out getting my tickets to THE WHITE STAR in advance, when I saw people outside the Pardoe Theater trying to buy tickets from those attending.  Written by Doug Stewart, this sold-out event premiered at BYU Education Week, and is similar to his masterpiece, SATURDAY'S WARRIOR.   It showed how both sides of the veil work together to bring the Savior's love to those who are struggling on earth.  It had an amazing spirit and you left seeing yourself within the play.  As THE WHITE STAR begins to visit differerent areas of the Church, you certainly don't want to miss out like those waiting in line outside trying to get in the Pardoe Theater.

"THE WHITE STAR— A PERFECT CHOICE"

A message of faith, repentance and redemption.  Warm and Reassuring dialogue and lyrics that are deep.  Features 17 new songs. This show will play well in LDS communities or venues, and could be used as a missionary tool to peak the interest of those outside the LDS faith.

Vanessa Godfrey (Letter to Deseret News)

We saw this amazing show at Education Week. It was absolutely wonderful. We loved every minute, and so did the rest of the crowd. The story, the music, the cast...it was all great. We laughed, we cried, and we laughed while we cried. A guy stopped us in the elevator when we were leaving and asked if we had just seen THE WHITE STAR, and he raved about it. I can't recommend it highly enough.

“WHITE STAR” SHINES AS NEW LDS MUSICAL"

It began with SATURDAY'S WARRIOR more than three decades ago. Now Doug Stewart, the same man who started the LDS musical genre,  has teamed up with Janice Kapp Perry to write THE WHITE STAR.

As in SATURDAY'S WARRIOR it is the teenage son who brings things to a head — after he sees in vision his ancestors who prod him toward a testimony and urge him to make sure his father (Jimmy Flinders, the man), isn’t left out of the family chain.

The musical takes its title from a symbol for Jesus Christ, who gives light to the world and to individual lives as well. It is fast-paced, entertaining, and chock full of good tunes, which vary from high-energy production numbers to tender solos and duets with fluid melodies.  It’s tighter and shorter than "Saturday’s Warrior" but still carries a message of love and caring on opposite sides of the veil.

"STAR TWINKLES"

If you're looking for a family-friendly musical that promotes good values and family togetherness, THE WHITE STAR just might be the answer to your prayers. Life changing experiences propell the show, with uplifting songs by noted LDS composer Janice Kapp Perry.  Through story and music the audience is taken on an emotional roller coaster as they discover how important family ties can be.  At times it sent shivers down my spine.
